Opening the app for the first time

After installing, you’ll see “Choose storage”. Here is what to do.

Book Editorial Tracker

Choose storage

Public beta projects start from an explicit storage choice.

Local project file

one editor at a time

1Local editor label
Used only to identify changes in this project; it does not create an account.
New project name
2Create local file
3Open local file

Shared-folder project

one editor at a time

Open an existing shared-project file from a synced or shared folder.
Shared editor label
Used only to identify changes in this project; it does not create an account.
4Open shared project file
If two people edit independently, the later save is blocked rather than merged.
Opening-screen reference, recreated from v0.2.0. Follow these steps in the desktop app.
1

Enter your name

Type your name in Local editor label, or Shared editor label if you’re joining a shared project. This identifies your changes. No account or password is created.

2

Starting a new book?

In the left panel, enter a New project name and select Create local file. Choose where to save it. This creates your tracker’s .betp.json project file.

3

Returning to a project?

Select Open local file and choose the saved .betp.json file. You do not need to enter a new project name.

4

Joining your co-editors?

In the right panel, select Open shared project file. Choose the project your team has placed in its shared folder. Ask the lead editor which file to open.

Buttons greyed out? Enter your editor label first. Creating a project also requires a project name.

02

Using the tracker

Open an instruction when you need it.

03

Working with co-editors

One editor makes changes at a time. Others can view the project.

Use the same project
Agree which tracker file and shared folder the team will use.

Save, then close
Finish your changes and close the app to release editing.

Hand over
Tell the next editor the project is ready for them to open.

Explore the workflow diagram (opens in a new tab)

Shared-folder editing is sequential; independent changes are not automatically merged.
